Sing Barbershop... It's the harmony that counts
Learn to sing is a roaring success

The Clwyd Clippers were hosts to a Learn to Song course of six weeks recently. This course, part of a nationwide initiative to bring the joy of singing to a wider audience, has been the subject of a number of television programmes recently but they haven't really expanded on the joy that these events have brought to the existing members of the chorus - it's been a real pleasure!

The course was attenLearn to Sing:March 2010ded by some 46 guests over the period and I'm pleased to report that following the course, more than a dozen singers have opted to continue with the Barbershop experience. Here are just a few comments from the Learn to Sing feedback we've had:-

"An absolute pleasure.“

"I have thoroughly enjoyed the course, the six weeks have flown, I would like it to go on. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming.”

“Many thanks. Make it longer.”

“It has been an excellent experience, made me feel very welcome and part of the group.”

Men found voices, hidden in places they didn’t even know existed! Breathing techniques, tone, key, body frame, relaxation, word pronunciation and so much to create a harmonious success. It was a joy to be present during the course.

If you haven't yet returned to the Clwyd Clippers for rehearsal, why not come along on a Thursday (usually at Theatr Clwyd) and either watch us - or continue to sing!

You're always welcome

Rhiannon rejoins the Clippers!
Clwydclippers Music Team: Peter, Rhiannon and Andy

The Clwydclippers have just been given a major boost by the appointment of a top musical director as well as a new gold medal winning coach.

The new director is Rhiannon Owens-Hall, who directed the Clippers when they were originally formed, and who has over 30 years experience in the highest strata of Barbershop music in positions including musical director, international coach and competition judge. The Clippers' current director, Peter Turner,  will continue as Assistant Director or Music.

The coaching team has also been strengthened by the introduction of Andy Funnell who, having started Barbershop singing with the Clippers in 1995, went on to being a successful Gold-medal quartet singer with top quartets Soundcrew and Pitch Invasion. Andy currently performs with Steel. He has been an Assistant Musical Director and is presently a trainee competition judge.

Clippers' chairman, Richard Heaton said "The return to the Clippers of two highly respected people in the world of Barbershop singing, in addition to our excellent chorus director, now positions the club to further develop through the support of our new Director of Music and Coach. All the members are enthused by the recent appointments. We are now well placed to support the needs of new members starting with our recruitment drive through the Learn to Sing course in the Spring".
